🚀 Released 22 July 2024
BOMcheck has been updated to Version 8.1 to include one new SVHC and additional substances detailed below. The following 30-minute video explains what types of materials and parts can contain the new declarable substances and how to update your Regulatory Compliance Declarations (RCDs).

Substance Details
New REACH Candidate List Substance
On 27 June 2024, the European Chemicals Agency added one new substance to the REACH Candidate List which now contains 241 substances.
- Bis(α,α-dimethylbenzyl) peroxide - may be used in EPS as a co-synergist for flame retardant grades
This new SVHC will be added to BOMcheck and require supplier declaration.
New Proposition 65 substances
OEHHA added 4 new substances to the Proposition 65 List (officially known as the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986) on 17 November 2023 and 29 December 2023. 2 out of 4 new substances will be added to BOMcheck.
- Bisphenol S (BPS)
- Silicon carbide whiskers
2 out of 4 new substances has been screened out as unlikely to be present in supplied articles and result in exposure to the consumer and therefore does not require notification.
- Coal-tar pitch
- Fluoro-edenite fibrous amphibole
1 additional substance that was previously screened-out has been added to the BOMcheck Proposition 65 list due to its use in equipment sterilization.
- Ethylene Oxide
EU POPs additions and updates
One substance restricted under Annex 1 of EU POPs Regulation (EU) 2019/1021 has been updated in BOMcheck with a stricter concentration limit in preparation for an amendment to the Unintentional Trace Contaminant (UTC) limit.
- Hexabromocyclododecane (HBCDD) threshold in BOMcheck is reduced from 0.01% (100 ppm) to 0.0075% (75 ppm)
The entry for HBCDD in the RCD tool will be set to missing for all suppliers due to the stricter concentration limit.
Update to entry for Lead in batteries
The entry for lead in batteries has been amended to allow companies to collect data for all types of batteries.
- Change from lead in all primary batteries to lead in all batteries
The entry for lead in all batteries in the RCD tool will be set to missing for all suppliers due to the updated entry.
Updated EU MDR (CMR 1A & 1B) substances
The CMR 1A & 1B substances list in the RCD tool has been updated to include additional substances from the 21st ATP and new SVHCs. The entry for CMR 1A & 1B substances in the RCD tool will be set to missing for all suppliers due to the updated list.
Update to the BOMcheck PFAS List
The BOMcheck PFAS list has been expanded to include 9 new additional PFAS known to be present in products.

New and updated substances in the BOMcheck Packaging declaration
2 new entries have been included in the BOMcheck packaging declaration and packaging statement due to new restrictions in France and Australia:
- Expanded polystyrene (EPS) and other polymeric foam materials (e.g, EPP, EPE, EVA)
- Non-recyclable styrenic polymers or copolymers
1 existing entry has been amended to take into account a new restriction in Australia:
- Degradable plastic (including oxo-degradable plastic)

After the release of v8.1 the BOMcheck team will publish a guidance webinar giving step-by-step instructions on how users can update RCDs in BOMcheck.
