General Questions
Why can't I access the tools?
To be able to access the tools in BOMcheck you must first play the training webinar.
What's the difference between "Enter data" and "Enter BOM"?
The ‘Enter data’ section allows users to create declarations at the component/part number level.
The ‘Enter BOM’ section allows users to upload a BOM/Assembly parts list which BOMcheck uses to roll up and display the overall compliance status for the individual part number declarations (from the ‘Enter data’ section). The overall compliance status is automatically updated when any changes are made to the declarations for the individual parts.
When should I create a mapping?
As a supplier, you can create a mapping between one of your declared part numbers and one of your customers part numbers. This allows you to connect your customers part number to your own declared part number, so that you do not have to create a new declaration in BOMcheck for an already declared part, under your customers part number. Your customer will be able to search for their part number and it will link to the declaration you have already created for your own part number.
Can I have multiple part mappings?
Yes, there is no limit to the number of mappings you can create. You can map an existing part number in BOMcheck to as many different part numbers as required.
How do I update the confidentiality of a mapping?
Upload a new mapping using the mapping tool, select your confidentiality and this will overwrite the previous confidentiality settings.
What is the estimated time to receive an emailed report in BOMcheck?
This depends on the number of parts you include in the query. If you include a request, e.g. for 1 million parts, this is a huge number of parts and a significant amount of data so there will be a delay in processing. To receive reports faster, please consider refining the search parameters or breaking up the requests into a smaller number of parts.
How often is BOMcheck updated?
Unless there are extenuating circumstances in the regulatory landscape, BOMcheck has a bi-annual release cycle that follows the updates to the REACH Candidate List. Other substance lists may also be updated during the bi-annual release.
Where are the servers for BOMcheck located?
BOMcheck is hosted by AWS and uses clusters of servers with the master cluster servers located in Dublin and clone cluster servers in Virginia (USA), California (USA) and Singapore.
Why am receiving an error message?
"Inserting this parts list will cause a loop?"
The error message is displayed when you are mapping a part number to another part number which will create a loop. Please create a ticket referencing the error message and attach the parts list you are uploading for review.
"Please correct fields marked in red?"
The error message is displayed when you have not filled in a mandatory field correctly. Please review the entire page for fields marked red and correct/populate as necessary.
"Part number #123 must be in basic Latin"
The error message is displayed when special characters are used such as ü, å, ä, ö etc. It may also occur if there is a miscellaneous space at the end of the part number/part weight in the file. Please review your file and upload again.
"The parts list file must include weight data in column 3 for all part numbers" The error message is displayed when a part number is not contained in Column C for all part numbers in the parts list. Please review your file and populate Column C as necessary.
Please see the FAQ on parts list formatting for further information.
"The following parts could not be found on BOMcheck:"
The error message is displayed when a specific part number from a supplier cannot be found. It may be displayed in the Retrieve Data tool or when creating a mapping. It indicates that the part you are trying to find or map a part number to has not been declared by the supplier (based on DUNS).
Please create a request in BOMcheck using your Super-User Account for the supplier to declare the part number by going to ‘Send request to suppliers’.
Your supplier will need to include your company in the confidentiality settings of the declaration to be able to view the part.
"SCIP S2S Integration hasn't been configured. Please contact: admin@bomcheck.net"
The error message is displayed when trying to open the SCIP S2S Integration module before it has been configured. If you would like to add the SCIP integration tool to your BOMcheck account to automate your SCIP submissions, please contact us.
BOMcheck has allowed user companies across multiple industries and from all EU Member States to fulfill their SCIP obligations efficiently and cost-effectively by automating SCIP dossier generation and submission.
"Part to which part number #123 has been mapped to has previously been declared with a material unit of X (e.g. cm^2, cm^3, each, etc.)"
The error message is displayed when you are trying to update, replace or map a part number to a part number that has previously been declared with a different material unit. Once a part number has been declared with one material unit, i.e. ‘m’, it cannot later be declared as a different material unit, i.e. ‘each’.
